Small mammals live in rough grassland and reeds where there is plenty of cover, and subsequently these habitats are popular hunting grounds for barn owls. These beautiful birds are crepuscular hunters, so can often be spotted hovering over such habitats at dusk or dawn. I spotted this one silently gliding over the marshland between Southwold Harbour and the town.
